Rotork designs and manufactures electric and fluid power actuators for valves, penstocks and dampers of all sizes and description, encompassing isolating, regulating and modulating duties.

In the water and effluent treatment industries, the requirement for electric valve actuation and automated control is served by Rotork’s IQ range of intelligent, ‘non-intrusive’ actuators. The IQ range features legendary innovations including Rotork's unique double-sealed enclosure, ‘non-intrusive’ infra-red commissioning, data-logging and predictive maintenance capabilities. More recent innovations include an advanced display, Bluetooth® communications interface and an absolute encoder.

Rotork’s intelligent IQ actuator technology is widely recognised as industry-standard for isolating and regulating valve duties in many industries. The use of solid-state electronics as an alternative to switch mechanisms and counter limiting devices, combined with programmable micro-processor based control and instrumentation functionality, offers many proven benefits.

These include ‘non-intrusive’ configuration and data transfer by means of a hand held instrument via a secure, bi-directional link. This system is used to perform all the switch setting and commissioning functions that were traditionally only achieved by removing electrical covers. Using the multi-lingual menu on the actuator display screen, it is quick and easy to commission the valve, with or without mains power connected.

The same instrument is used to download this data and upload it to other IQ actuators with similar commissioning parameters, simplifying and speeding up the operation, or to download actuator operating information from the actuator’s data logger.

The inclusion of a data logger enables an event-by-event history of valve activity to be generated, including torque profiles produced during each opening and closing. These can be viewed in the actuator window and, using Rotork’s IQ-Insight2 software, can be compared with the valve torque signature profile logged during the commissioning process to identify the trend of valve operating wear or isolate tight spots and other problems. Analysis of this data improves asset management through fault diagnostics and preventative maintenance.

Complementing the IQ, the CVA range of linear and quarter-turn actuators provide an electrically powered process control operator suitable for most control valve types and sizes. CVA actuators deliver continuous, repeatable modulating control with a programmable fail to position option. Resolution, repeatability and hysteresis performance is quoted at less than 0.1% of full scale, offering suitability for the most demanding control valve applications.

The all-electric Rotork CVA actuator features advanced and user friendly non-intrusive programming and commissioning technologies, combined with comprehensive integral data logging, diagnostic and asset management capabilities. A rugged, double-sealed IP68 watertight and explosionproof enclosure enhances long term maintenance-free reliability in the harshest of environments.

Integration of the plant controls by use of network connectivity has been a hallmark of Rotork actuator products for many years. The use of proprietary and open systems makes the commissioning of the plant and the subsequent control and monitoring a simple and reliable task.

All Rotork actuators are compatible with a wide range of communication and process controls systems by including the appropriate option card. The actuator reports status feedback, via the field highway, to the overall plant control system (DCS or PLC) and valve control commands are actioned.

The Rotork Pakscan system complements open systems including Profibus, DeviceNet, Modbus and Hart. Innovative technology together with expert bus system knowledge ensures that Rotork can always provide the ideal solution for the control system.
