National Grid

National Grid Electricity Transmission is the owner of the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. We’re network specialists, managing not only today’s highly complex network, but also enabling the electricity system of tomorrow.

Work involves building and maintaining the electricity transmission network – safely, reliably and efficiently. We connect sources of electricity generation to the network and transport it onwards to the distribution system, so electricity can reach homes and businesses.

Following the flood events of 2007, the Pitt Review was commissioned by the Government and outlined a series of recommendations with the objective of improving flood resilience and response measures for the future. The recommendations included those aimed at essential infrastructure services, and highlighted the need for the Government and infrastructure operators to work together to build flood resistance and resilience into critical infrastructure assets to ensure continuity of service during extreme flood events.
