Operations Manager

As Operations Manager, you will work as part of the senior management team to deliver a project or series of projects at one time. You will lead a team of highly skilled civil, mechanical, electrical, process  and commissioning  engineers to achieve the completion of water and wastewater infrastructure. You will report monthly to the framework manager on all aspects of project performance including programme, budget and HSQE.

Location: Thames Valley (Reading) – Wastewater Asset Assurance Programme (WAAP)

 The Role:

You will be involved in all aspects of project delivery from design through to construction, commissioning and handover to the Client.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The main duties and responsibilities of the Operations Manager are outlined as follows:
  • Support the Framework Manager in the management of operations across a Programme of Works from design inception through to delivery, commissioning and handover.
  • Work as part of a team in the delivery of a programme of works, supporting and leading staff as a “one team” culture.
  • Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to on-site.
  • Instil a positive Health and Safety culture within the team in their thinking and actions.
  • Drive sustainability and strive to implement sustainable delivery and solutions.
  • Seek out innovative solutions, lead the curve on new technology and emerging issues.
  • Liaise, co-ordinate and cooperate closely with external agencies for the betterment of Glanua operations, i.e. Thames Water, Environmental Agency.
  • Support the Framework Manager to ensure projects are adequately resourced, liaise with Framework Manager to re-allocate staff and identify new staffing requirements in a timely manner.
  • Represent the company on live sites within your remit and co-ordinate all required documentation to be present on-site and up to date.
  • Conduct regular Health and Safety inspections on live sites and facilitate employers in conducting Health and Safety audits/inspections/engagements.
  • Ensure that all testing and quality procedures are followed across our worksites and through our offsite supply chain.
  • Ensure best practice programme management techniques are used such as Lean Construction and Last Planner.
  • Support the preparation of contract programme taking input from all disciplines and carefully planning the project to meet all interim milestones. Track, monitor and adjust this programme throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Mitigate risks to the programme by resequencing works, changing methods of construction, design or advancing a task at a different stage in the project.
  • Support in the management of suppliers and sub-contractor packages such that they meet deliverables of the programme and resource projects as required in order to meet programme milestones.
  • Ensure sound procurement practices for suppliers and sub-contractors including implementation of supply agreements and sub-contracts.
  •  Facilitate and explore value engineering opportunities to support the Framework Manager.
  •  Actively mitigate risk and maximize opportunities.
  • Support the team in the preparation monthly reports on the commercial activities of each project under your remit identifying income, costs, work in progress and accruals.
  • Ensure commercial return on contracts as tendered, ensure all variation opportunities are explored and recovered in timely manner as required.
  • Ensure positive experience for the customer and their representatives instilling an ethos of collaboration and co-operation.
  • Liaise with the Client(s) and instil confidence to them in your actions and ability to deliver projects for them successfully.
  • Respond to and address any customer and stakeholder complaints in a timely manner. Support the Framework Manager in obtaining customer satisfaction surveys and provide any feedback on how to improve our customer satisfaction.
  • Seek to improve the project delivery process by providing lessons learned feedback and innovative solutions for adoption on future projects.
  • Keep appraised of latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Provide input to business functions and operations in shaping and implementing efficiencies and improvements.
  • Other duties as required from time to time.

Specific Objectives Relating to the Role:

  • Specific Objectives of the WAAP Operations Manager include:
  • Ensure a positive H&S Culture on-site and that H&S standards are maintained at all times with a high emphasis on maintaining standards and achieving zero lost time.
  • Establish programme team and build strength, depth and capacity as the programme ramps up. Hire and onboard any new hire requirements that have been identified.
  • Structure a multi-site mobile programme delivery team to move from project to project providing outline design, SI works and pricing (RFP Process), detailed design and project delivery.
  • Build teams that know and understand the way Glanua delivers projects and that can work autonomously and competently in their roles to deliver projects once your term in the UK has come to an end.
  • Co-ordinate all disciples of Design, Civil, MEICA and Commissioning to ensure there is a seamless flow through work packages with zero downtime in work areas.
  • Ensure quality checks are completed and a robust ITP/ITR process is developed.
  • Provide support and advice, as required, to the wider Thames Water Framework team.
