Location

The role is this is a full time, permanent opportunity based at Bradford however will be on a hybrid working arrangement with some office and home working.

What does the role involve?

You will lead the development of your clients’ long-term Water Resources and Drought Planning. Including the risks and opportunities associated with maintaining their long term supply resilience, in the face of challenges such as population growth and climate change, whilst ensuring that they meet their statutory obligations for water resources and drought plans. The approach involves working right across the regulated business, and beyond including with regulators, to develop a long term (25 year plus) Water Resources Management Plan and Drought Plan, and contribute to the related strategies, policies, interventions and investment priorities that are required to deliver the Plan. In addition, you will lead on engagement with the regional water resources planning process, through Water Resources North and support engagement on water resources planning at a national scale (Water Resources National Framework).

You will lead and manage three colleagues who will support the delivery of Water Resources Management Plan and Drought Plan and also provide technical leadership to external consultants that we work closely with.

You will also be responsible for monitoring performance against the Drought Plan, leading on relevant areas of drought plan implementation and advising the company on drought plan processes.

Some of the key role responsibilities include the following

  • Lead annual reporting requirements in relation to the Water Resource Management Plan and Drought Plan, including Annual Reviews and audits, ensuring data is collected / calculated as required, updating process documentation and leading regulatory engagement as required.
  • Work with colleagues from across the company to ensure that water resources planning is aligned with other relevant strategies, notably catchment, water production and water networks strategies , with a particular emphasis on identification and assessment of options for inclusion with the Water Resource Management Plan process.
  • Lead implementation of relevant areas of the drought plan, including through company escalation processes when required. Monitor performance against drought plan, prepare lessons identified reports after periods of drought and work in collaboration with colleagues to implement lessons identified and drive continuous improvement of drought management processes.

What skills are we looking for?

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a relevant subject area, eg -Science/Engineering. You will have expert knowledge in regards water resources planning and drought planning processes with prior experience of delivering water company – Water Resource Management Plans.

  • You will be able to think technically and strategically, and communicate effectively at all levels within the company, with appreciation of investment, regulation and science. You will be able to think laterally and creatively and spot new opportunities. You will be able to create a strategy which can deliver over several AMPs for long term sustainability and flexibility according to drivers.
  • You will have strong analytical skills including proficiency in MS Excel and Word.
  • You will have strong leadership and influencing skills, confident and credible in building up excellent stakeholder relationships with external organisations e.g. other Water Companies, regulators and funders.
  • You will be able to produce, and succeed with, compelling investment business cases.
  • Highly organised and resilient you will be able to co-ordinate your own work and that of other teams/projects and stakeholders and provide constructive challenge where necessary.
  • You will be required to drive to operational sites across the Yorkshire region therefore you must hold a valid UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
