Lamella settlement tanks for Purestream Process Solution
Hixon Wastewater Treatment Works experiences seasonal increases in suspended solids during the spring months, a phenomenon commonly referred to as ‘Sloughing Season’. The elevated solids loading had the potential to impact final effluent quality, creating a need for additional settlement capacity to maintain compliance and support stable treatment performance.
Solution
To address this challenge, Purestream Process Solutions supplied and installed two temporary ST15 lamella settlement tanks, complete with associated pipework and fittings. The modular units were introduced to enhance solids removal efficiency and provide additional settlement capacity throughout the seasonal loading period.
Challenges
A number of delivery challenges were successfully overcome, including intercepting flows from the existing rising main without disrupting live operations, positioning the lamella units to minimise pipe runs and installation time, and maintaining safe site access during installation. Following a detailed site assessment, Purestream identified the optimum tank locations and coordinated specialist transport and lifting operations to ensure rapid deployment.
Outcome
All equipment was delivered, installed and commissioned within one week, enabling Severn Trent Water to maintain compliant effluent quality during the seasonal event. The additional treatment capacity provided immediate improvements in suspended solids removal and enhanced process stability during fluctuating load conditions. As a modular hire solution, the system also offers the flexibility to be demobilised or redeployed quickly to support future operational requirements.
