The upgrade scheme will improve water quality at the Hardham site, which will secure the drinking water supply for customers for the years ahead. The work started in April 2022 and is due to be completed by the end of 2026.

The scheme, undertaken by Trant Engineering, includes 18 projects covering essential upgrades, refurbishment and replacement of existing assets improving treatment processes.

Adrian Atherton, Senior Project Manager at Trant Engineering said:

“Crucially, the works must be completed without interrupting supply to thousands of properties within the network area. We continue to work closely with Southern Water’s team to ensure this.”

Located closely to the rivers Arun and Rother, environmental audits were carried out at key stages throughout the project.

Matthew Park, Project Manager at Southern Water said:

“The installation of the regulating valve to ensure uninterrupted supply and to meet the key DWI regulatory date has been the most impressive milestone. Given the importance of this part of the project, Trant’s management has been exemplary.”

Trant completed the regulating valve in April 2025, some 2-years before the regulatory DWI date in September 2027.
