Project Description / Main Operations

Construction of an 1800mm diameter tunnel, 250m in length in sandstone, by pipejacking techniques using a shield-mounted roadheader tunnelling machine, as part of the duplication of the Heronbridge mains at Chester.

Scope and method:

Construction of an 1800mm diameter tunnel, 250m in length in sandstone, by pipejacking techniques using a shield-mounted roadheader tunnelling machine.
Installation of 1200mm diameter water main, 1400m in length.
Laying of 1150m of 1200mm diameter ductile iron pipes up to 5.00m in depth, together with associated chambers.
