Construction of an 1800mm diameter tunnel, 250m in length in sandstone, by pipejacking techniques using a shield-mounted roadheader tunnelling machine, as part of the duplication of the Heronbridge mains at Chester.

Scope and method:

  • Construction of an 1800mm diameter tunnel, 250m in length in sandstone, by pipejacking techniques using a shield-mounted roadheader tunnelling machine.
  • Installation of 1200mm diameter water main, 1400m in length.
  • Laying of 1150m of 1200mm diameter ductile iron pipes up to 5.00m in depth, together with associated chambers.
