Robot Programmer

We are seeking a skilled Robot Programmer with experience in FANUC robotics and Visual Components offline programming to join our production and engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, testing, and optimising robot programs used within automated manufacturing processes. This role is critical to ensuring high levels of efficiency, quality, and reliability across our robotic systems.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop, test, and modify FANUC robot programs for new and existing automation cells.
  • Create and validate offline simulations using Visual Components software.
  • Conduct robot path teaching, calibration, and system integration on-site.
  • Support commissioning of new automation projects, including troubleshooting and refining robot operations.
  • Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and Production teams to implement efficient robotic solutions.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation, backups, and revision control.
  • Diagnose and resolve robotic faults, motion issues, and program errors.
  • Ensure all robot programming complies with internal safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Provide technical support and training to production staff when required.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for performance improvement, cycle-time reduction, and process optimisation.

Who we are looking for:

  • Proven experience programming FANUC robots (TP programming, iRvision experience beneficial).
  • Strong working knowledge of Visual Components for offline programming and simulation.
  • Understanding of automation system components: conveyors, PLCs, tooling, end-effectors, sensors, etc.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and layouts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Formal training or certification in FANUC robotics or industrial automation.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, engineering, or automated production environment.
  • Knowledge of robotic safety standards (e.g., ISO 10218).

Purpose of the role:

To grow our filtration product offering by owning the technical development, validation and application expansion of the Mecana PCMF portfolio, while providing high-quality technical support to tenders and customer discussions.

PCMF is a strategic product for the business. Historically, most applications have been in tertiary wastewater treatment, but we see significant opportunity to validate and scale performance in broader and emerging applications.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Own the technical development lifecycle for PCMF: concept → requirements → design input → prototype/testing → validation → launch support.
  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of trials/pilots across a range of applications, including tertiary wastewater treatment and targeted expansion into:
  • Provide technically robust input into bids and proposals, including sizing, selection, application suitability, assumptions and constraints.
  • Keep current with competitor offerings, relevant standards, customer requirements and emerging best practice in filtration and advanced treatment.
  • Lead and/or support technical discussions with customers, consultants and contractors: application design, performance expectations, constraints, integration, commissioning and operational considerations.
  • Work with Quality and Health, Safety & Environment colleagues to ensure products and documentation meet relevant standards and expectations (including safe installation, safe operation, and clear limitations).

Who we are looking for:

Essential

  • Strong technical foundation (engineering, environmental, mechanical, process, or similar) with practical product/application experience.
  • Demonstrable experience improving or developing engineered products (requirements, testing, validation, documentation).
  • Hands-on experience planning and executing trials/pilots (experimental design, sampling regimes, data analysis, technical reporting).
  • Ability to explain technical topics clearly to non-technical audiences (customers and internal teams).
  • Strong analytical approach: assumptions, calculations, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Comfortable working across functions (sales, manufacturing, quality, supply chain) and driving work through influence.
  • Willingness to travel and work on operational sites, with a practical and safe approach to field-based work.

Desirable

  • Experience in filtration processes in wastewater, potable water, storm water, or industrial treatment (e.g. tertiary filtration, solids removal, adsorption-support processes).
  • Familiarity with quaternary treatment concepts and interfaces.
  • Experience building practical tools for selection/sizing and standardising technical outputs.
  • Exposure to certification/assurance routes and product compliance environments.
